DIY - Bunting Flags




Materials:
* Fabric - Joel Dewberry Notting Hill Primrose Poppy by Free Spirit - 110 cm x
   80 cm ( 43 inch x 32 inch) (flags)
* Fabric - 6 meter x 4 cm (250 inch x 2 inch) (bias-tape)

Step 1: Draw the pattern.
Draw the flag pattern (20x) with tailors' chalk on the back of the cotton fabric.
The pattern is without seam allowance. Add 1 cm (5/8 inch) seam allowance. Draw the top of the flags without seam allowance.

Step 2: Cut the fabric.
Cut the flags out of the fabric.

Step 3: Pin down.
With right sides facing pin down the back and front pieces.

Step 4: Sew.
Sew.

Step 5: Trim.
Trim.

Step 6: Turn right-side out.
Turn the bunting flags right side out. You may need to use a pair of closed scissors or a knitting needle to push the nose out.

Step 7: Topstitch.
Topstitch.

Step 8: Draw the bias-tape on the back of the fabric.
Draw the bias-tape (4 cm x 6 m) (250 in x 2 in) with tailors' chalk on the back of the fabric.

Step 9: Cut out strips of fabric for your bias tape.
Cut out strips of fabric for your bias tape.

Step 10: Fold the beginning of 1 strip of fabric to the inside.
Start attaching the strips. Place one over the other, right sides together. Sew all the strips together using the same method. Fold the beginning and the end of the strip to the inside and pin down. Sew.

Step 11: Fold both raw edges into the center.

Step 12: Pin down.
Pin down.

Step 13: Fold again in the center and press.
Fold again in the center and press.

Step 14: Place the bunting flags in position.
Place the bunting flags in position and pin down. Leave a gap of 24 cm (10 inch) between the flags. Leave about 100 cm (40 inch) gap at either end to tie up your bunting.

Step 15: Sew.
Sew.
